The Chiang Mai old city is approximately the area that is close to the moat of the square and brick castle walls. It is the center of the town of the times that it was the capital and there are many historical temples and historic spots. 600 year old Wat Cheiedi Luang was once home to the Emerald Buddha and was once the tallest building in Chang Mai. The largest temple here is known as Wat Phra Singh which is of a similar age, around 600 years, it also boasts beautiful murals.
